Anthony Vega was sworn in as the 16th County Clerk of Lake County on December 1st 2022, taking the reins of both the Clerk’s Office and the office of the Recorder of Deeds in the much anticipated merger.

As County Clerk, Anthony serves as the Chief Election Authority of Lake County, and as the keeper of Lake County history tasked with maintaining land and vital records, assumed business name filings, and tax extension while serving as Clerk to the County Board. During his first year in office, Anthony successfully returned over $3 million to local units of government, increased election judge compensation resulting in increased staffing levels, and leveraged federal dollars to begin the implementation of modernization efforts for Lake County’s election infrastructure. In 2023, Anthony was nominated and accepted into the American Council of Young Political Leaders’ professional development program and was sent on a bipartisan delegation to North Macedonia. In early 2024, Governor JB Pritzker appointed Anthony to the Ranked Choice Voting Task Force to study the potential impact of ranked choice voting in Illinois’ elections. For the 2024 Presidential Election cycle, Anthony successfully implemented the newest generation of epollbooks and introduced ballot on-demand printing capabilities in Lake County.

Prior experience includes serving as Chief of Staff to Lake County Sheriff John D. Idleburg and work in advocacy and organizing. When he was elected, Anthony became the first Latino Lake County Clerk, and the first openly LGBTQ+ candidate to win a countywide office. County Clerk Anthony Vega holds a B.A. in Political Science from Bellarmine University, and a Master’s in Public Policy from Loyola University Chicago. County Clerk Anthony Vega resides in Grayslake, Illinois.
